  • New Government Grant for Mobile Apps such as iphone/android/windows mobile 7

    January 24th, 2011
New Government Grant for Mobile Apps such as iphone/android/windows mobile 7

Apply the grant with us email us: design@dexterng.asia or fill our contact us form!

Singapore’s Infocomm Development Authority has announced a new grant of up to SGD15,000 (around USD11,600) for companies developing consumer internet apps aimed at mass local adoption.

The grant is open to any Singapore-registered company developing a web or mobile app that is designed for use by the general public. I suppose that means not just cool geeks or some other tiny niche. So I asked the folks at IDA what they thought the app’s mass appeal should be like to qualify for the money.

“At the minimum, the app should reach out to at least several thousands to tens of thousands in terms of downloads,” said Alvin Tan, one of the people managing the grant.

The IDA’s other criteria for the grant is that the app should fulfill “community outreach and engagement purposes.” Here’s Tan’s clarification:

“It refers to the social component of the proposed app, that is, the interaction between the organization or company and the users of the mobile apps, and among the users themselves. This could be in the form of feedback to the company, sharing of activities that the user participated in with their social networks, searching for content related to the company (possibly with the use of location-based services), etcetera.”

The grant is called the People Sector Infocomm Partnership Scheme. Companies can apply for half of the project’s qualified costs, up to SGD15,000. The money will be paid out once the “project deliverables” are complete. Tan said that the total amount of money available under the grant is is confidential, although a quota is in place.

If you have questions, there is a briefing about all this next week. Details, taken from IDA’s website, are below:
    Date: 27th Jan 2011
    Time: 13:00 to 14:00
Venue: Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore
    Multi-purpose Hall 1 and 2
    8 Temasek Boulevard #14-00

  • WOW Fund Grant – 80% subsidy of laptops and servers!

    August 28th, 2010

We have recently partnered with a work life consultant approved by the Ministry of Manpower to be able to provide this grants for my clients.

Just to sum up the grant, this funding is to assist organizations to defray the costs needed to set-up their work-life programmes. In your case, it is the set-up of a flexi-work arrangement, namely flexi-hours (i.e. 2 hours bandwidth) and telecommuting (i.e. working away from the office). Recall, you need a minimum of two flexi-work options out of five.

Do note the following costs for our consultancy services:

    1. Net cost of the entire work-life consultancy project to your organization is just $1,000 after tapping onto the grant. Recall, the entire work-life consultancy package is $5,000, out of which 80% is funded by MOM, which means the Government will reimburse your client $4,000.

    2. The public work-life training provided by our company, which is compulsory for all project leaders is $400 (80% funding under the WOW! fund), as compared to the $800 fee charged by all other training providers. http://www.mom.gov.sg/Home/Pages/Intro_test.aspx

    3. The net gain / savings for the hardware / software component is around $15,680 if your client maximize the entire grant.

  • Why you should start making iPhone or iPad apps?

    May 19th, 2010

Standard Chartered, a British bank with nearly 75,000 employees in more than 70 countries, has switched its standard corporate communications device from RIM’s BlackBerry to Apple’s iPhone.

    blackberry vs iphone

    blackberry vs iphone

According to Reuters, the London-based bank is replacing the BlackBerry with the iPhone as its phone of choice. Workers who already use a BlackBerry have been given the option of switching to the iPhone. The company will pay monthly billing for business-related telephone and data services on Apple’s handset.

The Asia-focused bank has nearly 75,000 employees, though it is not known how many of them currently have a BlackBerry issued by the company. The switch is unique for the financial industry, where other institutions like HSBC Holdings and Morgan Stanley remain BlackBerry-only.

“If more companies switch to the iPhone, this is of course bad news for RIM,” Lu Chialin, an IT industry analyst at Macquarie Securities in Taipei, told Reuters. “However, it will take a long time for companies to do their own internal testing before deciding to change, so it will be a while before it has any effect on RIM.”

  • Twitter Bug Forces People to Follow You

    May 11th, 2010

A few hours ago, a Turkish social networking site managed to discover an exploit within Twitter. The said bug allows users to force other Twitter users to follow them, with a simple ACCEPT @user typed within Twitter.

Gizmodo – For a while today, a Twitter bug let anyone force anyone to follow their accounts. It was a hilariously simple trick, and equally bizarre. Even better? This bug was discovered by accident, by a Turkish Twitter user.

Needless to say, the whole fiasco is worth a good laugh, especially if you wanted monogamous Twitterer like Conan O’Brien to follow you and “cheat” on Sarah Killen. For the full story on how the Twitter accept bug happened, head on over here.

This would have been a really good marketing bug if it wasn’t exposed so soon.
